Review of the fifth edition of ESSENTIALS OF ENGLISH by Charleen Micheles-Scott

This is an easy to read and understand handbook covering all the rules of English grammar and writing style.

Updated and expanded in 2000 this popular writer's sytle manual covers the essentials of effective communication. These include:

* Rules of English grammar.
* Word usage in correct contexts.
* Adapting your writing style to different formats and assignments for classroom and business use.

You'll also find advice and instruction on verbal logic, clarity of expression, consistency of style, and structuring paragraphs and essays.

During our chats many of us have had questions about punctuation. I had constant trouble with the comma until I read this book. If you have questions about punctuation; commas, periods, the question mark, or exclamation point, this is a must read book!

The authors kept in mind the persistent need of writers for a compact, ready reference book. Essentials of English aims to be comprehensive, without being cumbersome. It seeks, in all areas, to be exact, clear and succinct.

Editor’s Note: As a practicing professional who grew up using ‘Strunk and White’s; ‘Elements of Style’ I have to say that I find ‘Essentials of English’ much easier to use.
