The Book of Love Symbols
By David Fontana
Book Review
By Joanna E. Lopez
A perfect gift for Valentines Day; The Book of Love
Symbols explores a
wealth of loves lure. It explores such topics as chivalry, spells, potions,
and aphrodisiacs. The book is a journey through the many twists and turns
from cupid to mistletoe. Its colorful illustrations explore the origins of
such topics as Venus, Eros, and Aphrodite. It examines the language of
flowers, love tokens, emblems of passion. The book gives insight to romantic
symbolism, and the folklore of love.
There are many fun facts in this little book. One fact in
particular
explains when a woman who knits a garter about her right stocking will see
her future husband in a mirror when she recites these words. "Far from
home
where I stay, may my destiny be told by my garter."
The book of Love Symbols is a fun fast satisfying read, and great for
the
incurable romantic in all of us. I also recommend these books also by David
Fontana, The Book of Magic Symbols, The Book of Dragons and Fabulous Beasts,
The secret Language of Symbols and the Secret Language of dreams. All
published by Chronicle books.
