Writing Craft - New Market Updates

WRITER'S GUIDELINES:

SPS Studios, Inc., publishers of Blue Mountain Arts products, is interested
in reviewing poetry and writings that would be appropriate for greeting
cards. We strongly suggest that you familiarize yourself with Blue Mountain
Arts products before submitting material. The following guidelines are for
our poetry card lines and do not apply to card lines created specifically
for niche or specialized markets.

1. We like to receive original, sensitive poetry and prose on love,
friendship, family, philosophies, and any other topic that one person might
want to communicate or share with another person. Writings on special
occasions (birthday, anniversary, graduation, etc.) as well as the
challenges, difficulties, and aspirations of life are also considered.
Important note: Because of the large volume of poetry we receive written to
mothers, sons, and daughters, we are accepting only highly original and
creative poetry that expresses new thoughts and sentiments on these themes.

2. Poetry should be about real emotions and feelings written from your
personal experience. We suggest that you have someone in mind (a friend,
relative, etc.) as you write. The majority of the poetry we publish DOES
NOT RHYME.

3. Your work need not be copyrighted prior to submission. However, to
obtain a copyright, you may contact the Copyright Office (address: United
States Copyright Office, Library of Congress, Washington, DC 20559).

4. If you are submitting via postal mail, we prefer that manuscripts be
typewritten; one poem per page please. Your name should appear on every
page. You may submit as many poems at one time as you wish.

5. If you are submitting your work by postal mail and would like a response
and/or to have your work returned, you must enclose a self-addressed,
stamped envelope (SASE) of adequate size, with the correct postage. While
we always try to respond to your submission as quickly as possible, please
allow 2 to 4 months for a reply. Please be sure to include your name,
address, and telephone number with your submission, and please keep us
informed of all address and telephone number changes.

6. E-mail submissions are welcome. Send to
editorial@spsstudios.com. PLEASE
DO NOT SEND ATTACHMENTS. Type or paste the text of your work into the body
of the e-mail. If you are submitting more than one poem at a time, please
include all of them in one e-mail message. Be sure to include your name,
address, and telephone number.

7. E-mail submissions will receive a reply only if the work is selected for
further review for possible publication. Selected submissions will receive
a response by postal mail within 2 to 3 months. We are unable to respond to
e-mail submissions that are not selected for further review.

8. We pay $300 per poem for the worldwide, exclusive rights to publish it
on a greeting card and other products, and $50 per poem for one-time use in
a book. Publication procedures will be explained in detail prior to
actually publishing your work.

9. Manuscript submissions and questions concerning your work may be
directed in writing to the postal address below or e-mailed to
editorial@spsstudios.com. Please do not telephone.
