Tiskelion Publishing: Romance Market!

We are a new e-publishing company with an exciting opportunity for both published and new writers. Our goal is to create unique extraordinary romances for extraordinary women. To do that, we’re hunting for amazing stories delivered by fresh voices in all genres of romance. We’re looking for romances with intriguing plots and richly developed characters that take the reader on an incredible journey.

Please keep in mind that the editors follow all the guidelines as if they were etched in stone. So please follow them.

· We accept unsolicited submissions. Please query and submit synopsis to Submissions@triskelionpublishing.com. Include the query and synopsis in the body of your email. Do not send attachments, we won’t open them.

· Point of View is strongly suggested to be third person. Heroes and Heroines as well as antagonist POVs are allowed.

· Sensuality level is open. However, we’re not interested in soft porn, bestiality, rape scenes between the hero and heroine, extremely graphic violence, or necrophilia.

· Please remember this is a romantic line so the entanglements between the Hero and Heroine must engage the reader and make them root for this couple to get together.

Currently we are seeking the following in Romance:

Paranormal (70,000-100,000 words)

Historical or contemporary, we want richly inventive plots and characters that will leap into your heart. Vampires, witches, fairies, werewolves, aliens are just fine. Just make them different and unique and give us a happy ending.

These are contemporary romances with something extra. These can be light-hearted comedy to serious heart-wrenching drama richly detailed stories that engage the reader. Any contemporary setting: from Dad’s looking for the perfect nanny to hard-boiled detectives falling in love with a woman on the run are fine. We’re not interested in Time Travel unless you make it fresh. There must be a strong paranormal aspect to the story.

Take the above example, if Dad’s looking for the perfect nanny let him find Mary Poppin’s great grand daughter or make the hard-boiled detective a vampire.

Our heroes are strong, sexy, dynamic men that you can’t help but fall in love with. He can be flawed physically or emotionally, and he doesn’t always make the right decisions. He’s the guy that can take your breath away or make you madder than a hot chili pepper. However, our heroes never resort to emotional or physical abuse under any circumstances.

Our heroines are strong, capable, and smart women doing their thing and doing it well. We don’t have weak ladies at all. And they don’t need to be a size two with blonde hair and blue eyes. Three-dimensional women have a myriad of flaws and a rich personality. They need to be a match for the hero, so don’t short change the girls.

Science Fiction/Fantasy/Futuristic (80,000-125,000 words)

Dazzling places, far away worlds or an alternate earth setting are fine. This is your opportunity to write richly compelling stories with exotic characters. Sci/fi is fine in futuristic stories just don’t go overboard on the gadgets and forget your characters. We would love strong antagonists in these stories, don’t make it too easy on your hero or heroine.

Draw us into a world of dangerous intrigue, space smugglers, or an epic struggle between good and evil. These should be complex stories that can use romance as a secondary vehicle. You don’t need a happily ever after story with the Fantasy/Futuristic line, but it should make sense why the hero and heroine are apart. Well-crafted secondary characters and intricate plot devices are a must.

Romantic Suspense (90,000-100,000 words)

High tension, fast paced these romances should burn as you turn the pages. We’re looking for thrillers in every sense of the word. They can range from political to police stories and action filled adventure to psychological terror. The heroine must fit the story she’s involved in: No soccer moms saving the world and no double agents in medical thrillers. Characters must be strong, capable and a good match with each other mentally and physically.

These stories will take hold of you and not let go until the last page. Whether a psychological thriller, technical adventure, or a medical crisis our suspense line always has a paranormal element woven intricately with the romance for a blood pounding result. Although these stories don’t require a "Happily Ever After" ending, the hero and heroine should make some sort of commitment together.

Our heroines must show depth, strength and intelligence in dealing with whatever threat faces them including falling in love with the hero, who might not be such a nice guy. She’s courageous, engaging and must fit the storyline. She can be anyone in a contemporary setting drawn into extraordinary circumstances.

We want our heroes to be three-dimensional characters, unique men of courage that might be just a bit dangerous themselves. He might not even be a "hero" until he meets that special someone and then he’ll do anything to help. He doesn’t need to be gorgeous or perfect, but he must be capable of handling whatever situation he’s placed in.

Gothic/Horror (80,000-100,000 words)

Dark atmosphere, chilling novels told in a suspenseful manner designed to wreak havoc with your sleeping. Any setting is allowed, but make the story plausible. Supernatural threats are great as long as they add to the story and don’t overcome the story. The plot should unfold using a variety of foils to keep the reader on the edge. We want these stories exciting not gross. So watch the axes and slasher type horror.

Dark heroes and heroines are encouraged. These characters need rich, provocative layers with a sinister aura around them that lures readers in. Traditionally, the male keeps a dark, dangerous secret; we’d love to see some heroines that were dangerous, keeping in mind that if you do switch roles, the hero cannot be weak.
